Bradsky Family Acquires Rapid City Landmark Property - The Hotel Alex Johnson

Rapid City, South Dakota (PRWEB) July 2, 2008 -- On its 80th year anniversary of opening the doors to the public, members of the Bradsky, Patton and Boyum families of Rapid City acquired The Hotel Alex Johnson today. Paul Bradsky, Tom Bradsky, Rich Bradsky, Shane Boyum and Donnie Patton make up the investment group which purchased the property. ISIS Hospitality of Rapid City, the management company owned by the same principals, will manage the hotel.

A combination of factors prompted the family to consider purchasing this downtown landmark several months ago. A premier downtown location, beautiful architectural detail, an 80 year old building which structurally is in very sound condition, favorable local economic conditions and a stable tourism industry were all factors they considered prior to acquiring the hotel. Mayor Alan Hanks' relentless support in revitalizing the downtown area and assisting with parking issues streamlined the acquisition process. Additionally, several years ago the family formed a management company with significant depth and experience in hospitality management which would enable them to expand with new ventures. Current Chief Executive Officer, Rich Dunkelberger, has extensive experience in operating historic luxury hotels both in San Francisco, California and Charleston, South Carolina.

In the 90's, Rich was Managing Director of both The Sherman House and The Majestic in San Francisco, hotel properties built in 1876 and 1902 respectively. At The Sherman House, Rich presided over the property when it was designated the top hotel in the city and ranked #3 in the United States by the ZAGAT Survey. Rich has extensive experience in operating fine dining venues as well, with his restaurants in these properties having been featured by both Gourmet and Bon Apetit magazines. In Charleston, Rich was Regional Vice President of Charlestowne Hotels, which operated the historic Andrew Pinckney Inn and The Elliott House Inn and he was instrumental in the acquisition and renovation of the Neighborhood Inns of Chicago, comprising three historic properties. In addition to The Hotel Alex Johnson, ISIS Hospitality currently manages The Country Inn & Suites, The AmericInn Lodge & Suites, The LaQuinta Inn & Suites, The Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, The WaTiki Indoor Water Park Resort, Cadillac Jack's Gaming Resort and Tin Lizzie Casino.

The Hotel Alex Johnson will enjoy a thorough renovation over the next two years. Dear, Mitchell, Digges Design of Williamsburg, Virginia has been retained to oversee a comprehensive refurbishing of public areas, guest accommodations and the restaurant. Owner Kelli Mitchell has extensive experience renovating historic hotels, including The Tides Inn in Irvington, Virginia, The Hotel Utica in Utica, New York and The Hotel Majestic in San Francisco, California.

The Bradsky, Patton and Boyum families wish to thank the Didier family for their stewardship of this property for the past several decades. They are excited to take ownership of the hotel and ensure that the vibrant past of hosting Presidents, dignitaries and luminaries from around the country continues well into the future and The Hotel Alex Johnson remains a vital economic force in the historic downtown area.

The New York Times has published a wonderful review of Starkland's Larkin Gifford's Harmonica CD from "alternative classical" composer Phillip Bimstein. Times critic Steve Smith concludes that "the irresistible charm of Mr. Bimstein's music has less to do with technology than with his uncanny knack for finding the music of everyday life." Multiple-Grammy winner John Adams wrote the CD's Introduction. This new CD echoes Bimstein's previous Garland Hirschi's Cows Starkland recording, which was lavishly praised, triggered hundreds of calls to hip radio stations throughout the country, and was called "a cult classic" on National Public Radio.
